Keyword Gap Analysis
Keyword gap analysis is the key to discovering keyword ranking opportunities based off competitors.

We have a long history in the ever-changing landscape of Search Engine Optimization. In 1997 I founded the first online business selling medical supplies on the web. Allegro Medical grew to an operation of over 100 employees, over $250M in revenue and over 2M customers served. Along the way we developed a strong practical understanding of SEO, the mistakes to avoid and how to be successful. This foundation and continued work in Search Engine Optimization has given us tremendous experience and insight. After founding the eCommerce Institute in 2011 we have made our SEO services available to companies throughout the US. If you are looking for SEO services, the eCommerce Institute can help! What is Keyword Gap Analysis?
Keyword gap analysis is a part of the keyword research process aimed at discovering keywords that competitors rank for but your website does not – the “gap” in keywords. Oftentimes, these keywords represent important keyword targets for improving potential to rank in Google for terms that drive traffic and potential revenue. With this information, you can develop a strategic plan to close the gap and improve your website’s ranking in search engine results pages (SERPs).
This comparison will reveal the gaps in your keyword strategy, and you can work on creating content, site structure, pages, posts, navigation elements, meta data and incorporating all other onsite SEO best practices that target these specific keywords. This process will help you increase your website’s visibility in search engines, driving more traffic and leads to your site. Overall, a well-executed keyword gap analysis can help you stay ahead of your competition and improve your website’s SEO performance.
How Much Does Keyword Gap Analysis Cost?
The cost of a keyword gap analysis is typically part of an entire keyword research project. research varies depending on the complexity of the project and the level of detail required. If you’re doing basic research with free tools, such as Google AdWords Keyword Planner, the cost could be zero, other than your time. However, if you’re looking for more in-depth information or a specific target audience, you may need to invest in paid keyword research tools or hire a professional SEO consultant like the eCommerce Institute. How we do Keyword Gap Analysis
Below is an example of one part of the keyword research process we conduct for our clients. In this example, we looking at a Keyword Gap Analysis for a construction company. Here, we are identifying keywords that a larger competitor ranks for but the smaller company does not. This example of the start of the analysis shows that the competitor ranks for nearly 2k keywords where our client ranks for only 22. After evaluating the organic keywords, we will also look at any paid terms the competitor is advertising on. This information is critical in determining whether or not to begin paid advertising or PPC to better compete. If we see that other competitors are conducting PPC advertising it is typically a good signal that PPC should be incorporated into your marketing strategy.
We will use this information from the keyword gap analysis along with other tools to develop PPC advertising campaigns focused on the terms we know will drive leads and ultimately revenue.
